Orkney Stockist Celebrates 10 Years
Robertsons of Orkney has entered its 10th year as a Vapormatic Stockist. We take a look at the history of the company and see how a strong relationship has led to ongoing success.
Top of the World
Orkney; one of the most northerly places in the UK. An archipelago of over 70 highly fertile islands in the northeast of Scotland, Orkney has been inhabited for over 5,500 years. Ancient monuments litter the islands and there are many traditions and customs related to farming and the annual harvest. With agriculture forming such an integral part of the history of the Island, it has not gone unnoticed that 2008 marks yet another moment in Orkneys long and proud farming history.
Robertsons of Kirkwall has now been a Vapormatic Stockist for 10 years, during which time the company has seen itself outgrow its former premises in the centre of the town and move to the main trading estate. Success has also meant expansion into other business areas, becoming not only a tractor dealer but also taking on a variety of other machinery franchises.
Erik Stout bought the parts business in 1998. Although a Vapormatic reseller at the time it was not an official Stockist; which was the first thing Erik changed. "Growth with Vapormatic had been steady throughout the years" says Erik, and by 2001 Robertsons was ready to move to a larger premises. It was at this time that he took on the tractor franchise. "Once we opened a workshop to service vehicles the Vapormatic sales really took off and in the last few years sales have dramatically increased".
This year has seen the refurbishment of their showroom with Vapormatic shop furniture and Erik is optimistic about the year ahead. Robertsons held two consecutive open days at the beginning of March with great success and the business is now firmly established in the minds of the islanders as the place to go for replacement tractor parts.
