Les wins first prize

A very delighted Les Perkins from Worcester has won the Bicton Overseas Agricultural Trust [BOAT] fund-raising draw.

First prize was a 1967 David Brown 990 tractor worth approximately £3,000, which had been fully restored by Bicton College engineering students under the watchful eyes of senior lecturer Chris Jaworski.

All parts required were supplied by The Vapormatic Company of Exeter, whose Managing Director Peter Brennan was on hand to present keys to Les together with David Henley, Principal and Chief Executive of Bicton College.

Peter Brennan said," Vapormatic has been pleased to support this very worthwhile project over a number of years."

This was echoed by David Henley, who said, 'Although this is my first year at Bicton I have been involved with the good works of BOAT at my previous college and look forward to a closer association in the future.'

Congratulating the winner, Bill Vellacott Chairman of BOAT thanked all the sponsors of the tractor draw prizes and the fantastic ticket buying supporters who have raised £20,000 this year and a staggering total of over £105,000 in the last 7 years.  This has enabled the charity which was set up by Devon farmers in 1991 to work with over 100 lead trainers working in the developing world and allows BOAT to make significant plans for 2010.

Second prize (£250) in the draw went to David Grimstone, from Brighton, and third prize of £100 to Seamous Mallone from County Limerick.
