Starting at the most northern point of mainland Britain, Richard will not only be averaging 100 miles a day, but will have to carry all the spare parts, clothing and food he will need with him as he makes his way to the south west of Cornwall.

Richard explains the motivation behind the challenge, "After the death of my father last year I decided to get back into shape. So, I bought a cheap bike and it reawakened a passion for cycling. Since then, I have spent 12 months preparing and 10 months training for this"

The trip will be physically demanding and Richard is expecting to lose up to one and a half stone over the course of the ten days. "Wind is the worst enemy", he explains. "If the wind is blowing from the south west, as it usually does, it could mean cycling into a headwind for most of the journey which will only increase the effort needed to cover my daily distance".

You can follow updates on Richards progress here on www.vapormatic.com which will also include his blog updates as he posts them. Keep checking back for the latest on where he is.

In preparation for the challenge Richard took part in a one hour fundraising event here at Vapormatic (pictured). Cycling for one hour on his training equipment, Richard managed to average over 30mph!

So far, Richard has raised over £1,500; with all donations made by Vapormatic staff matched by the company. If would like to donate, you can do so by visiting Richards JustGiving page
