Audio technology has made massive advances in the past five years enabling users to use their audio equipment for more than just listening to music. From connecting your iPod to making telephone calls through your stereo, you may think that installing Bluetooth audio equipment is an unnecessary luxury; but a good quality system can be a convenient and vital piece of equipment if you work long days in your vehicle, especially if you need to make urgent phone calls on the move. But what should you look for when purchasing Bluetooth Radio and CD player, our guide explains all...

What to consider when buying one...

BluetoothBluetooth - This is an open wireless system which exchanges data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices. The widest use of Bluetooth is within mobile phone technology and when you connect your Bluetooth enabled phone (you should see the Bluetooth symbol on your phone as featured here) to a Bluetooth stereo, you can have crystal clear, hands free phone calls using your stereo. Check out VLC5708 and VLC5711.

DAB ready - With the addition of a digital tuner and antenna, Digital Audio Broadcasts enable you to listen to your favourite radio stations without any hiss and crackle. The quality of the broadcasts is also far superior as they sound as if the presenter is right next to you. In addition, it also allows you to listen to the radio without having to retune when you go out of range of the signal. N.B. Antennas are usually sold separately as a normal aerial will not pick up digital signals. Check out VLC5711.

iPod Control - With the use of an additional lead, you can connect your iPod to your stereo and play your downloaded music. This reduces the amount of CDs that you would have to store in your vehicle. Check out VLC5707 and VLC5711

MOS-FET - This is a transistor that is designed to handle large amounts of power to the speakers. So if you need to have your stereo loud to compensate for the tractor noise, the stereo can handle the extra load. Check out VLC5707, VLC5708 and VLC5711.

stereo remote1Remote Control - Remote control for your stereo from the steering wheel is now recommended to ensure that you are safely controlling the unit whilst keeping your eyes on the road. Additional interfaces are required.
