The risk of fire is always present in the farmyard, whether from chemicals, fuel, straw and other flammable materials dotted around. It doesn't take much for a whole barn or workshop to be sent up in smoke, so fire extinguisher inspection is an essential part of running any modern farm. Extinguishing equipment needs regular visual inspections, at least monthly, as well as yearly servicing from a professional.

When inspecting extinguishing equipment, the most important things to look out for are any damage or defects to the unit, such as loose pins, low pressure levels on the gauge or severe dents in the canister.  It is also important that the tags are present showing the date of the last professional inspection.
